INTRODUCTION: If you knew that this was your last day to live, what would you do? Who would you spend the day with? What would you say?
I was with my father on the day that he died. I was in his hospital room. His heart was failing. They were prepping him for a 3rd heart surgery. I could see in his eyes that he did not expect to survive the surgery. My father was an introvert. A man of few words. He was a good man but not especially demonstrative when it came to his feelings. But on that day, when he knew it was probably his last day, he said three words to me, over and over. What do you suppose they were? ''I love you.''
On Jesus' last day on earth with his disciples, it was all about love. Jesus displayed his glory to them, the glory of his love. Let's break it down.
I. LOVE IS PRACTICAL
Jn. 21 ''When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them - fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread...'Now come and have some breakfast!' Jesus said.''
So here come the boatload of tired, hungry and stinky fishermen from a long night of fishing and don't you know they're hungry. When what do their wondering eyes behold but fish and bread over burning coals. Now that's a simple meal, fish and chips. But put yourself in their place. Smell the delicious aroma of fresh tilapia and home-made bread baking over those coals; the fresher the fish the better the taste. I remember boy scout camping trips where some of the older, more seasoned scouts had brought dough on the campout and they draped it over sticks and held it over the fire to bake. I watched and smelled it baking and with my mouth watering prayed, ''Dear Lord, PLEASE make them give me some of that bread.'' T ...
