1 John 2:18-28 (5 of 9)
Vermon Pierre
Series: 1 John
Continuing on 1 John. A letter from apostle John to group of churches in region that we today call Turkey. First word in our passage today, the word ''children,'' reminds us of kind of letter this is. It's a pastoral letter, written by a pastor with fatherly love in his heart for these churches. Fatherly love with an edge of fatherly concern as there are threats to their faith out there that he wants them to be secure against. The biggest threat, the one that prompted the writing of this letter, gets mentioned in our passage today.

Did you know that you living in unique time period? And I'm not talking about time period of just last couple of years, or even last couple of decades. Talking last 2000 years. Last 2000 years are specially unique time to be living, according to the Bible. It's a time period often referred to, as see in v.18 in our passage this morning, as ''the last hour.'' Sounds maybe little spooky. But it's Bible's way of describing time period between first and second coming of Jesus.
Jesus coming to earth incredibly significant. Whole time period before his coming anticipating his coming. And this time period, one we in right now, is one where live responding to fact that he came. Because when comes again, that be it. He come to reign over all. This is why then Bible calls it ''the last hour,'' and why how we respond to Jesus right now so important.
John wants his readers to respond to Jesus in right way, to affirm what Bible says about Jesus. This essence of Christian faith because it one and only way can connect to God. Which is whole point of the Christianity!
However, are threats to this. John describes the threats in v.18. 1 John 2:18 - Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.
If grew up as Christian, you know twhole lot ...
