Takes lot be successful athlete. Lot goes into it. Because athletes, top athletes, want to win.
Among the things that some athletes do are what you might call visualization exercises. Getting in your mind what be like to be successful. Picturing for yourself the experience of hitting that home run, making that tough shot, crossing that finish line ahead of everyone.
The idea here being that getting in your mind what success as athlete be like, helps motivate and direct you to go in directions that will take you there.
In that same vein, suggest a visualization exercise for all of us. Visualizing successful Christian life. Imagining, right now, what be feeling, what be experiencing, at peak Christian living.
But don't just think randomly. Because our passage gives us some direction - would be like.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
Think about what John describing here. Feeling confident and secure in your relationship with God. Not racked by doubts and fears and failures, but confident before God.
Your relationship with God so solid, such a close one to one connection to him, always feel like your prayers about being answered. v.22 ''Whatever we ask we receive from him.'' And this isn't a relating to God as Santa Claus or some Genie. John later explains what this means in 1 John 5:14-15. ''14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.''
So it's being so tuned into God and his will, that your prayer life always feels like God saying, ''Yes. Yes! That's exactly what I want to have happen! Yes, that's what I want to hear yo ...
