An Obstacle - The Fleeting Pleasures of Sin
Jerry N Watts
Hebrews 11:23-26
- This message comes from my heart as I deeply believe that our country, culture, and people are in great need of two things: 1) A Great Revival among the Saints, and 2) A Great Awakening among the sinners. Having said that, I am keenly aware that we live in the day where political correctness has invaded the church, that several thoughts emerge when a preacher says this.
- Without a doubt, someone is thinking, ''I'm not a saint, I'm just a sinner saved by grace.'' And you are right, BUT in the Bible the ''sinner saved by grace'' is a part of the redeemed and is called a saint. This is our position in Christ and our practice in life as part of the redeemed family.
- When I say we need a great revival among the saints, it may not strike a chord with many for several different reasons. First, I am not talking about a meeting that runs 2 days or 2 weeks, like many think, but I am speaking of a visitation by the Holy Spirit of God that brings about conviction and repentance among God's people, an awareness of the presence of God in everyday life, and a firm commitment to obedience. Another thought might be there is a general disbelief in the possibility of a 'Holy Ghost-Heaven sent Revival' because we have no frame of reference of what this event is like. No one in our lifetime has experienced this type of meeting. In fact, many argue that the last great move of God in America was the late 1960's, was called the ''the Jesus Movement'', and the church snuffed it out because they were not ready for the young people who were saved. Regardless of your view, I submit we need a visitation of the Manifest Presence of God to bring a revival among the people who claim to know our Lord, Jesus Christ.
