Beware of Imposters...Imposters Beware (2 of 2)
Dr. Ernest Easley

We're reading our mail tonight! And of course I'm talking about God's special postcards! Those four one chapter books in the New Testament. These four books are really like postcards: their brief yet beneficial. Their short yet significant. Their concise yet clear. And I believe that God has a special delivery for you tonight. I really do!

We're thinking about God's Special Delivery! And what timeless truths we learned in Philemon. We met Onesimus who went from Slavery to Bravery! And then came Second John where God tells us how to spot a phony and what to do when they come knocking on the door of our home. Then last Sunday night we learned about the 3 men of third John!

Now tonight ... we come to God's Fourth Special Delivery: the book of Jude. Take God's Word please and turn to Jude's postcard!

Now ... who was Jude? Well ... in verse 1 he says, "Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James." Jude identifies himself as a servant and as a brother! "A servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James."

Matthew records in his gospel .. Matthew 13.55, "Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses (Joseph), Simon, and Judas?"

And listen to Mark: Mark 6.3, "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon?" And are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him."

In both of these lists we find that one of the half brothers of Jesus was a man named Judas who was a full brother to James.

Now .. look with me to Jude 1. Do you see that name translated "Jude?" It says in the Greek text: "Judas!" It was literally Judas who wrote this last postcard .. the half brother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now .. you say, "Pastor, I'm a little confused here. If the Greek text says "Judas" then why does it say "Jude?" Well .. that's a good question! And here's the answer!
