COMING JUDGMENT

2 Thessalonians 1:5-10


God is just and therefore he will reward those who faithfully
walk with him and punish those who willfully break his laws.
In the OT God punished people for their disobedience:
1. Adam and Eve were put out of the Garden of Eden.
2. There was a flood that destroyed all mankind.
3. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.
4. The land of Egypt was destroyed by the ten plagues.

Lewis Chafer (d. 1952) founded and served as the first president
of Dallas Theological Seminary - ''God has absolute right and authority over his creatures. In his rebellion against God, the creature steadfastly refuses to recognize the truth concerning the Creator's right and authority. He has perfect right to dispose of
all his works as it may please him.''

Context
The Thessalonian believers were suffering for their faith in Christ.
Paul does not tell us exactly how they were suffering, but he had been chased out of town by the people by the Jews who were jealous because many people had come to faith (Acts 17:1-9).

We can assume that the believers were mocked, rejected and treated with contempt by people in the community. Some may
even have lost their jobs because of their faith in Christ.

Paul writes to encourage them by explaining God will certainly judge those who have persecuted them when Christ returns.
Therefore, they need to remain faithful to Christ no matter
what persecution they face because he stands with them.

REWARD FOR SUFFERING :5-6

Their suffering for believing in Christ as their Savior was proof
they had become part of the family and kingdom of God. Since the world rejected Christ they will also reject those who follow him.
Satan will use people to persecute true believers in Christ.
