Paul realized that he needed the prayers of fellow believers if he was going to be successful in sharing the gospel with unbelievers.
He was not afraid to ask fellow believers to pray for him.

Pray for us - Paul is referring to himself, Silvanus and Timothy
who had gone to Athens and were now in Corinth. He knew that for them to be successful in sharing the gospel they needed the prayers of God's people to help and support them. It would only be as God opened people's hearts they would be successful.

Here it is that the gospel would quickly spread. Paul's goal was
that the gospel would be spread throughout the Roman Empire,
