Psalm 14:1-7
LIVING AS IF THERE WERE NO GOD!
Psalm 14:1-7
1 The fool has said in his heart, ''There is no God.'' They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord?
5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous.
6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the Lord is his refuge.
7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

Just to set the stage for today's message, take a look at the word ''fool'' in verse one. This word means to be ''stupid or wicked'' or both. In Matthew 5:22 the New Testament word for ''fool'' means to be ''emptyheaded;'' literally not capable of expressing a single thought anyone should listen to. Biblically speaking, this is the kind of person who says there is no God. I guess I'm wondering why we believers worry so much over what non-believers say about us, the church, or the world's state of affairs? By definition, a fool is someone who has little to offer to the conversation.
I'm not as interested this morning in ''fools'' (those who say there is no God) as I am in ''foolish individuals'' (those who live as if there were no God). Most people will admit to believing in God's existence and yet, too often, that admission has no effect on how they live. Believing in God is a start but according to James 2:19 even demons believe in God and tremble. Foolish individuals are even worse than the demons in that they say they believe in God and yet don't tremble.
