Do you carry around pictures of your loved ones? In days gone by, you would transport pictures in your wallet or purse. Now, you can whip out your smart phone and show off your pictures. You may even use your phone to access Facebook or Instagram and display albums of pictures. It's rather impressive and informative. When I'm first getting to know people, I will often ask if they have any photographs of their family. It's one way that I can get to know people better. In our visual culture, pictures are significant.

Did you know that you carry a picture of God around with you? This picture is critical because it determines how you view God. So, what does your picture of God look like? How big is your picture of God? In 1952, J. B. Phillips discussed this issue in a classic work entitled, Your God is Too Small. Phillips dealt with the fact that too many people have the wrong idea of God in their minds. Do you think you may have a wrong perception of God? Do you question His interest in your life? Do you wonder if He will truly exercise His power in your trials? If you're like me, you're guilty of having erroneous views about God. This is idolatry, or as Rom 1:25 calls it: worshipping the creature rather than the Creator. This has been the age-old sin of humankind going back to the Garden. However, by Revelation 8, Jesus judges the earth because earth-dwellers have too small of a picture of God. Hence, John provides two responses that will help us worship the right God in the right way.

1. Stand and kneel before God (8:1-6). The awesome judgments of Jesus Christ should lead to both awe and intercession. In 8:1 John writes: ''When the Lamb [Jesus] broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.''
