Britney Spears is a popular singer. I say this for the benefit of you older folks in the congregation. All the young kid know that to be true. She has recorded a song that the Rolling Stones used to do a number of years ago. She altered the words just a little bit. It goes like this. “I can’t get no satisfaction. I can’t get no satisfaction. I try and I try and I try, I can’t get no, I can’t get no satisfaction. When I’m driving in my car and that man comes on the radio and he’s telling me more and more about some useless information, supposed to fire my imagination. I can’t get no, oh no, no, no, hey, hey, hey, this is what I say. I can’t get no satisfaction. I can’t get no reaction. I try and I try and I try and I try. I can’t get no, I can’t get no satisfaction.”
Profound lyrics, I understand that. She’s a young girl singing a song, trying to make a buck. But really those words might well be the words of an old person. It could well have been the words of an old person who tried everything there was to life to find satisfaction and meaning and purpose in his life. He came to the conclusion about all of them that none of them could satisfy. I can’t get no satisfaction!
I’m referring to Solomon. He’s the author of the book of Ecclesiastes which we are going to study this morning. Let me tell you a little bit about Solomon. When Solomon was a very young person he made the most important decision in his life. He decided to receive the Lord into his heart and life and he became a child of God.
Most of the important decisions of life are made when you are a young person. Most people receive Christ as their Savior when they are young. Other important decisions are made when you are young. For instance, the decision about who your friends are going to be. What kind of convictions you are going to have. What will be the habits of your life. Who will be your life’s mate what ...
