INTRODUCTION: Acts 3:19 ''Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.''

Someone once said, ''I used to picture life as a giant baseball game. I thought I would hit a home run every time I got up to bat. Now I'm just trying not to get beaned in the head by the ball.'' I want to address my message to those who've been beaten down a bit by life. I want to talk to those whose love life maybe hasn't worked out just right; whose kids or grandkids are driving you crazy, to those whose health is not what they would have wanted it to be; to those who don't love their job, or even like it; to those who don't have a job; to those who's finances are so tight, you're still waiting for the Bible to come out in paperback. This message is for all of those who could use a little good news; to those who need some ''times of refreshing.'' I know you're out there. I know because some of you talk to me about it. I know because I read through the prayer requests each Sunday. I know because I read the same newspaper and watch the same news broadcasts as you do. I know because I know the human condition. I'm not talking about ingratitude. We are surrounded by the blessings of God and have no end of things for which to be grateful. But we still live in a fallen world and that stark reality surrounds us and confounds us.
As I thought about the encounter of Jesus with the woman at the well the word I kept coming back to was ''refreshing.'' Wells refresh. Water refreshes. God refreshes.
