Now as we continue learning about Standing On the Promises, take God's word and turn with me to the New Testament book of 1 John.
Hopefully by now you know the LOCATION of God's Promises: they are all found right here in the scriptures! Knowing their location ought to continue driving us back to them! And upon opening them, we need to Look for His Promises and then Live by His Promises.
And by now you know the EXPRESSION of God's Promises: His love for us! Every promise God gives us is His way of saying, ''I love you.'' And His greatest expression of love is through His son Jesus who is the Gate of the Promises and the Guarantee of the Promises. ''For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him, Amen, to the glory of God through us.'' (2 Cor 1.20)
And by now you know the PROVISION of God's Promises: He's not only a promise-maker; He is a promise-keeper! God never makes a promise that He doesn't keep.
And then we've talked about the DESCRIPTION of God's Promises: Some of God's promises are unconditional like the one we saw last time together. But most of His promises are conditional. God says to us, ''I promise to do this if you'll do that.''
I read about a man who all his life, every time he got paid took $20.00 out of his paycheck and put it under his mattress. Then he got sick and was about to die. As he was dying, he said to his wife, ''I want you to promise me one thing.'' She said, ''Promise what?''
He said, ''I want you to promise me that when I'm dead you will take my money from under the mattress and put it in my casket so that I can take it all with me.''
Not long afterwards, he died and his wife kept her promise. She went in and got all of that money the day he died, and went to the bank and deposited it, and wrote out a check and put it in his casket.
Now I'd call that a win-win situation! She got the cash, and He got ...
