How to Be Forgiven
Rex Yancey
Matt. 6:12; Col. 2:14
Forgiveness is freely given, but it is not cheap!
The Hebrews learned early on that forgiveness cost the death of something. God killed an animal and clothed Adam and Eve. The Holy of Holies was a place where animals were sacrificed to symbolize forgiveness to the Jews.
We can only be forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ. But today I want to expound on the face that our forgiveness is based on our forgiveness of others.
There are three fundamental truths in the Bible that are fundamental to life. One, we have an eternal relationship with God. Two, we have an internal relationship with God. Three, we have an external relationship with others. All of these relationships are interdependent. If our relationship with God is wrong, we will bear the burden of guilt. If our relationship with self is wrong, we will have no peace. If our relationship with others is wrong, we will experience bitterness.
There are two things that can come between us and God. The first is unforgiven sin. ''If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me.''
The second thing is an unforgiving spirit. To have peace ourselves we must be free from guilt and bitterness. Guilt is the ghost that inhabits its own house. Bitterness is an acid that destroys its own container.
When I lived in New Orleans I worked at Red Ball Truck line. I unloaded a truck one night where a container of acid had been punctured by a forklift. It had destroyed the container and part of the truck bed.
I want us to examine the Model Prayer to learn how we can be forgiven.

We owe a debt we cannot pay. He paid a debt he did not owe. That is the essence of ...
