Getting on Board God's Agenda
Robert Dawson
Deuteronomy 32.9-11; Exodus 19.1-6
Growing up I had a joke book or riddle book for kids that mom and dad would read to me and I loved looking at it because it had this big bright colored pictures (I still like those types of books - you laugh but at least I still read books). They had jokes in them like ...
- When is a boy not a boy...when he turns into a store
- What does a 1,000 pound lion eat when he is hungry ... anything he wants
- One of the riddles showed a boy with a cowboy hat riding a horse, but the boy was facing backward and the question asked was...Why did the boy ride the horse backward ... to see where he had already been
As we begin a new year together as a church family, our first year together in our new facilities, I want us to take just a few minutes and see where we have already been, more accurately to see where God has brought us from and give thanks for His unfailing commitment to us and His willingness to use us. I want us to bless Him for His wonderful gifts and provision because apart from Him this new phase in our journey and life as a church would never have begun.
(During this time give a reminder of God's goodness and the church's successes over the last few years) On top of all the visible and tangible things that God has done that can be tracked with a number or graph God has done a great work in many of our hearts - He has stretched us - He has grown us - He has challenged us - He has humbled us - He has taught us.
Despite some of the speed bumps and problems we have had - I can stand here and say without a doubt that GOD HAS BEEN VERY GOOD TO US. GOD IS GOOD - ALL THE TIME and ALL THE TIME - GOD IS GOOD.
You say pastor all that is good but why did you take time to do that - well I wanted to brag on God. I wanted to brag on you. I wanted to encourage you. Those are some reasons but looking at where we have been and what we have done and remembering what God has done ...
