2 Corinthians 3.1-3
Christmas time, for most families, involves a lot of traditions, some good and some bad. We have the decorations and displays of trees, lights, snowmen, reindeer, Santa's, wreaths, flowers, cakes, cookies, parties, dinners and presents. In addition to all of these there is the great Christmas tradition of the Christmas card. There are all kinds of Christmas cards to give and receive:
- E-cards that you can send across the World Wide Web.
- Boxed cards designed with a brief message for mass purchasing and sending.
- Specialty cards that you can buy at the stores (cost of a nice gift I might add - you can tell I am stingy)
- Letters that people send giving all the friends and family members a yearly update on what has and is happening with their family.
- Photo Cards - where we become our own card - You know the ones, they have a neat little saying or Christmas wish/prayer in small print with our photos and our children's photo's billboard size right beside them.
The sending of cards that express our love and prayers for friends and families during this Christmas season is a tradition that even believers can participate in and enjoy.
The apostle Paul teaches us in 2 Corinthians 3.1-3 that we are not the only ones who have sent out Christmas Cards and letters this Christmas season. Paul tells us that Jesus Christ has sent letters to be read by all men this Christmas season as well. As Christians during this Christmas season we not only have the opportunity to send and receive cards and letters the Bible tells us that we are Christ's cards and letters to the world.
Paul uses the imagery of a letter to teach the believers in Corinth about their relationship to Christ Jesus and to the world. In looking at what Paul has to say to this church we will learn that all believers are important letters of Christ.
