What Is a Christian Patriot?
Richard Bradley
Hebrews 11:13-16
Hebrews 11:13-16
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.
15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.
16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
NKJV
Patriotism is a noble thing. As I understand the definition of this word we have too few patriots these days. The word ''patriot'' is defined by Webster's as ''a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.'' It's the word ''devotion'' that is sadly missing from the vocabulary of many today. What you are devoted to is what you have given your heart to. There are so few true patriots today because there are so few citizens who are capable of loving their country more than themselves.
As Christians we live in the best of both worlds. We can be patriots of not one but two countries because we possess a dual citizenship. We are citizens of the United States of America but also citizens of that far country not made with hands that is eternal in the heavens. As citizens of both countries we possess all of the rights and privileges of both countries but also bear all of the responsibilities. I think it's a fair trade.
