Hebrews 13:7-8
I was going to preach one message and it has developed
into three messages. We are continuing in the verses
which talk to us about a well-rounded life. In these
closing verses of the book of Hebrews, we are given
some very practical, down-to-earth, helpful direction
for how we can have a well-rounded life.
He has talked to us about our social life and the
importance of love in our relationships with other
people. He has talked about our sexual life and the
importance of proper sexuality—a biblical sexuality.
Not what the world teaches, but what God teaches in
His Word. Then, he has talked with us a little bit
about our financial life and how important that is to
a well-rounded life—to have your financial matters in
a proper perspective and in a proper proportion.
Now, we move to the 4th area of a well-rounded life—our
spiritual life. Verses 7 and 8 tell us about that.
Then a couple of other places.
Hebrews 13:7 says, “Remember them which have the rule
over you, who have spoken unto you the Word of God:
whose faith follow, considering the end of their
conversation.” The word, conversation, as you may
remember in verse 5, includes more than just your
words. The word there really means your way of life.
Considering the way the live.
Verse 8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and
today, and forever.”
Drop down to verse 17. “Obey them that have the rule
over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for
your souls, as they that must give account, that they
may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is
unprofitable for you.”
Drop down to verse 24. “Salute all them that have the
rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy
salute you.”
You will notice in verse 7, 17 and 24, there is a
phrase which is common to those three verses. It is
the phrase, them which have the rule over you. The
