Luke 15:1-7
Luke 15:1-7
1 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.
2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, ''This Man receives sinners and eats with them.''
3 So He spoke this parable to them, saying:
4 ''What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!'
7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
NKJV
We all love a party. That is, unless we're giving one. Then it's a lot of work and you have to clean up. Maybe it's a stretch to read the idea of a party into verse 7 but you know what I mean. According to this verse those who are in heaven get really happy, in fact, have great joy every time someone gets right with God. And, there's no reason to believe this joy includes only God. When we get to heaven we'll possess the mind of Christ and we'll get happy every time He does.
What causes happiness in heaven? Remember how you felt when a child was born into your family? It's hard to imagine anything happening to us in this life that would give us more joy. That's the kind of joy people in heaven experience every time someone gets saved. Unfortunately, this is a party many of us are missing in the here and now.
What are some of the things in this text that will cause us to miss out on God's party?
