In the early 90s Mattel came out with Teen Talk Barbie. She was supposed to say up to 270 phrases. One of the phases proved to be a little controversial because some believed it perpetuated a stereotype that girls were not good at math. Barbie would say, ''Math class is tough!'' Sadly, I would have to agree with Teen Talk Barbie.

While some were concerned about Barbie finding math difficult some of her other phrases, while not necessarily pushing a stereotype, was a little more telling about some deeper problems that exists in our society. Phrases like, ''Will we ever have enough clothes'' and ''Let's go shopping'' or ''Let's meet at the mall'' give more insight into the human heart than ''Math class is tough.''

Those phrases speak to our preoccupation with stuff. Barbie's question echoes in our hearts. ''Will we ever have enough?'' It's a good question. It's a hard question. It's a heart question and one we will be looking at over the next few weeks.

For believers, the question concerning what place money and possessions hold in our lives is one that we struggle with. Jesus knew we would struggle with and that the Bible speaks to.
