Three very good friends went deer hunting together, a doctor, a lawyer and a preacher. As they were walking across the field to their stands a massive buck came out of the woods. All of them fired at the same time. The big stag dropped where he stood. They all rushed over to see how large the deer really was and determine whose bullet killed the monster.

The deer was a monster. They were excited but could not figure out whose bullet brought the big guy down. A heated debate ensued and they got a little loud. The game warden was in the area and heard the noise. He walked up to the men and wanted to know what the fuss was all about. They explained what happened and what the argument was about. The officer walked over the buck and after just a brief examination he stood up and with great confidence announced the preacher's bullet was the one that killed the deer. The other two said, ''How do you know that?'' The officer replied, ''Easy, the bullet went in one ear and out the other.''

Sad but so very true.
1. I'm well aware that sometimes the fault is with the preacher. We try our best but not every sermon is a homerun. I'd be happy if I just made it to first base occasionally on a bunt single and then there are times we just flat strike out.
a. I've been up here struggling with the delivery and flow of the message thinking, ''Lord is this ever going to end. I'm boring myself. I cannot imagine how they feel.''
b. I remember Johnny Hunt telling the story of how someone came to him one time and asked, ''Pastor Johnny, have you ever heard bad preaching, really bad preaching?'' To which he replied, ''Heard it? I've done it!'' Sign me up. Been there done that and had folks say, ''It wasn't good today.''
c. I have to agree with the person who said, ''I've never heard a bad sermon. If it is faithful to the Word of God then I have never heard a bad sermon. Bad preaching...that's a different ...
