Hebrews 3:1-6

How many of you have a Bible? Hold up your Bible. What a blessing it is to see people with their Bibles. It's a beautiful sight. The sweetest sound of all is to hear the turning of the leaves of the Bible. Turn to Hebrews 3. I would like to read the first six verses. On Wednesday nights, we just settle in and try to dig deep in God's Word. I have a feel that those of you who come on Wednesday nights are really interested in getting the meat of the Word. I try to give you the meat. This has now become primarily an adult congregation. So, I'm putting it on that level for you. I'm going to spend a little time on these verses this evening.

The word, brethren, is referred to generically in the Bible. It refers to all the brothers and sister of the Lord. He's talking to God's children.

Back in 1923 the New York Yankees built a new baseball stadium. It was called Yankee Stadium. They built the stadium because of the tremendous crowds coming to watch the Yankees play baseball. The crowds were coming because the Yankees had a player who was phenomenal. He had a big smile on his face. He had a big barrel-chested body, rather thin legs, but he had the ability when he came up to bat, to knock the ball out of the park. He was a homerun hitter. People just came from everywhere to see this man play baseball and to watch him hit the ball out of the park. So, in 1923, to accommodate the crowds who wanted to come see this slugger play baseball, they build Yankee Stadium and they called that stadium ''The House that Ruth Built.''
