Who's Your God
Jerry Watts
Exodus 20:1-3
Over the past months I have thought about this phrase; ''Who's Your Daddy?''. As I have thought about this I search for the original use, meaning, and the lack - and have discovered MANY different theories about it. But when someone says to me, ''Who's Your Daddy,'' I think about Juston Watts. He was and is my daddy. When I was young - he trained me, he loved me, he provided for me, he controlled me, he protected me, and he disciplined me. He never said, ''This is going to hurt me more than it will hurt you'' and I was always thankful that my dad was not a liar. When he had to apply the 'board of education to the seat of the lack of knowledge'', he made sure it hurt me more than him - because his goal was to NOT HAVE TO DO THAT TO ME AGAIN. He wanted me to learn the first time.
So, ''Who's Your Daddy?'' Who is the one who provides for you, disciplines you, protects you, guides, controls, and loves you? Do you have a picture in your mind of who that person is?
Now, let me turn this question and ask, ''Who's Your God?'' Were I to ask this question to people in this crowd, I was get a resounding, ''Jehovah God'' or ''The God of the Bible'' or even ''The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or some hybrid of these responses.
Yet the pertinent question is this: ''What or who does your life say is your God?'' In other words, were someone to follow your life for a week or a month and write a report about you, who or what would they say is on the throne of your life and heart?
The is very important to our Lord God. Let's turn our attention to Exodus 20 which records God giving Moses The Ten Commandments. The context: God has given to the Children of Israel Moses to lead them out of Egyptian Captivity. Since leaving God has parted the water, killed the armies of Pharaoh, brought water from the rock, sent manna, and has now brought them to Mt Sinai.
