We live in a world where the real thing is counterfeited so that it looks like the real thing, but is really just a cheaper imitation. You can buy imitations of designer clothes, purses, shoes and watches which may look similar to the real thing, but they are not. Usually because they are cheaper they do not last as long. We have the expression, ''You get what you pay for.''

The same is true of people who appear to be Christians when in reality they are really not born again so their faith is an imitation. Genuine faith is demonstrated in how a person lives their life.
The Thessalonians were models of authentic Christianity which was seen in their relationships and their hope for the future. The faith of a true believer is seen in:

1. Their personal relationship with God.
2. Their assurance of forgiveness of their sins.
3. Their sincere love for other people.
4. Their hope of eternal life when they die.

City

The city was founded about 316 BC. by Cassander, the husband Alexander the Great's half-sister, Thessalonica, for whom it was named. Thessalonica means ''Victory over the Thessalians'' who lived in central Greece. The city was made around a natural harbor and grew to become one of the Aegean Sea's important ports along with Corinth and Ephesus. It was also on the main road from the east to the west and in NT times the city had a population of morethan 100,000 people because of its significant location.

Church

Paul, Silas and Timothy traveled to the city on the second missionary journey after they were released from prison in Philippi about 90 miles to the east.
