Introduction
I was saved when I was seven years old and even though I certainly did not understand everything of the faith at that time I knew that I needed to accept Jesus as my savior for the forgiveness of my sins. At age ten I remember having a moment when I understood more what it meant to be accepted by God and what Jesus had really done to save me. But to be frank, I'd say that the most transformative moment in my life came at age 18, toward the end of my senior year and during the summer before college. You see, I had grown up in church and had always, more or less, done what was expected of me. I didn't go to parties; I didn't have pre-marital sex; I went to church with my family. I mean I had done all things that you're supposed to do if you are a ''Christian,'' but in the winter of my senior year of high school I really hit an emotional low point.
You see even though life was quite well for me (I lived in a stable, happy, middle class family, I had been accepted to UVA, I had friends and everything) I just wasn't happy. And to make things worse, I couldn't understand why. I was ''doing'' all the right things. And yet I was depressed, unhappy, and not knowing what to do about it. Life, itself, just seemed empty and this feeling lasted for months.
One day, however, I remember seeing a sticker or something with the Scripture reference ''Colossians 3:1-4'' on it. Now I don't know about you, but even to this day I often will see a Scripture reference somewhere and will intend to go look it up but will forget by the time I'm able to. But this one stuck with me. I remember coming home that day, still remembering the reference, and sitting in my room, opening up my Bible and reading this: ''If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right ...
