Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive...and then, to mention the subject at all is to be greeted with howls of anger. C.S. Lewis
If you have lived long enough you know there is great truth in this statement. The question of forgiveness is one we must all answer. For some, we need to seek the forgiveness of others. For yet others of us we need to grant forgiveness and release the hurt we have been holding onto. I feel the overwhelming majority are here because many times the people who hurt us may not know, may not face up to it or may never attempt to make things right on their behalf.
No quality in man, it is not natural either, we can take to make us more like God than to forgive.
- Proverbs 19.11 - Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
If forgiveness and patience are a good sense and glorious response to an offense then we live in a nonsensical inglorious world.
- We live in a society that knows and cares little about forgiveness. How else can you account for the anger, rage, bitterness, hate and revenge that permeates our society.
- With everyone, even those in church, there seems to be a seething rage underneath the thin layer of spiritual cosmetics we put on cover the bitterness, anger and resentment we hold in our hearts.
- For this reasons relationships on every level today is damaged. Most marriages are not destroyed because of infidelity issues but forgiveness issues - one refuses to repent and reconcile or one refuses to forgive and reconcile. Friendships are destroyed not because the actions are always that heinous but our souls are that petty.
- We walk around other people with caution because they are a pressure cooker with a faulty lid and we know they are going to blow any minute.
- Today we are taught to hold that hurt, nurse it, to use that energy in other places. We are told ...
