Deadlines, appointments and schedules are a non-negotiable part of life.
- Taxes - Jobs with its projects, meetings, agendas, interviews, promotion exams that must be completed on time - Dr's appointments - Surgery dates - School tests, papers, exams - etc...
- Even though you know what is coming and may even be prepared there is a level of anxiety that builds and increases with each passing day as the deadline draws near.
Jesus' life was no different. As you read the Gospels you walk away with the distinct impression that Jesus life was on a schedule. There was a deadline or appointment that His life from the moment of His birth was moving toward. He was born for a purpose. He was born to die.
This appointment, deadline that loomed over all of Jesus' life was not something He was unaware of. He was not some hapless victim being helplessly attracted to some mysterious destiny by the magnet of fate. Jesus knew why the Father sent Him.
- A couple of weeks ago - took JMD to foot and ankle clinic - toenail damaged and infected underneath - wanted to know what they would do - told him they would look at it - give us some medicine and send us home - nothing bad is going to happen to you - not going to be a big deal - not being a Doctor I had no idea they don't give that type of antibiotic to children - the Dr. looked at us and said we have to cut it out - meant right then and there - JMD eyes got big and watery especially when talked about giving him a shot in his toe - looked at me like ... you lied to me...you brought me here under one pretense and now look what's about to happen - thanks dad.
That did not happen to Jesus. The Father did not hoodwink His son. God did not send Jesus under one pretense only to change course on Him. Jesus came to die. Jesus came to give His life as an atoning sacrifice.
The cross was not an accident. It was not an afterthought. After Jesus began His mini ...
