Amos 3-6
You need to buckle up and get ready for this tonight. This is strong stuff from the book of Amos. Turn back to Amos 1:1 to let me begin. It says, ''The words of Amos who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.''
I have called this study and this preacher Amos, Country Preacher Come to Town. We have seen how the Lord called Amos from down in the south. He was a shepherd and also a pincher of the sycamore trees. The Lord just reached down and saved him and sent him up north to the sophisticated, cosmopolitan, cultured area of the north. This rustic country preacher, this down-to-earth preacher really shook the people up as he began to preach.

As the people gathered to hear this country bumpkin come to town and as he began to preach and skillfully begin to weave a web and it drew closer and closer, and as he brought them in, before it was over, he had a message directly to the people of Israel.
We read in the 7th chapter about the confrontation he had with the king's preacher and how the king's preacher basically told him that ''you go back down there where he came from, you jack leg preacher.'' Amos said, ''I was not a preacher, I was not the son of a preacher, the Lord took me and called me and gave me a message.''
In that atmosphere and that setting we read what Amos has to say. In the 1st chapter and 1st verse it says, ''The word of Amos which he saw. . .'' In chapters 3-6 we see the words that he said. Then in chapter 7 to the end of the book we include the pictures which he saw. He had visions. He said some things and he saw some things. We are going to look at some of the things he said. It is altogether possible that after Amos preached up there in the north, he went back down home and he committed to writing what the H ...
