Get Wisdom; Get Insight (22)
Series: Wisdom - Suffering, Thinking, Loving, and Living Authentically
Patrick Edwards
Proverbs 30:1-31:31
Introduction
This morning we arrive at the end of the book of Proverbs, where for a number of months we've been asking simply, ''What is the Way to Life?'' This, of course, has been apart of our wider series on Wisdom, where we have been exploring how can we live as authentic followers of Jesus. The series started in Job by first establishing whether God can really be trusted. In other words, does He really have your best interest in mind and can you trust that following Him will lead to your flourishing? (In case you missed that series, or can't remember, the answer was 'Yes!')
And so having established that we can trust God and that following Him is the only possible way to abundant life, we've looked then to the Proverbs to see how God tells us to live our lives. We went through the first nine chapters, which highlighted the importance of wisdom and living wisely. We've then spent a number of weeks looking at various topics and circumstances of life that the Proverbs directly address. We've been all over the place and have hopefully outlined a number of specific places in life where you can better follow Jesus and worship God well.
What I want to try to do this morning, as we conclude the book, then, is to tie it all together. To help in this endeavor, the editor of the book of Proverbs has given us here at the end of the book two concluding chapters to do just that. In these final two chapters we're given a big picture look at what it means to be wise and how we can continue to grow in wisdom. You see one of the biggest temptations, I think, we've faced throughout the Proverbs is this tendency to develop a to-do list of disciplines, thinking that if we just commit to doing the right things and avoiding the wrong ones, well then we'll be wise and enjoy abundant life. But friends this is not at all what it mean ...
