Introduction

Teresa and I have been spending a lot of our free time recently looking at baby stuff, making lists of things we need, and looking at possible nursery themes. One of the things though that always amuses me, much to the annoyance of my bride, is how much Noah's Ark themed stuff there is out there. By and far, Noah's Ark is one of the most common baby themes, which is really kind of shocking if you think about it. Noah's Ark is the event whereby the God of heaven and earth destroyed every living creature on the face of the planet save a very few. It's a horrific event of death and the righteous anger of God against the wickedness of mankind. The fact that so many think then that this story is an appropriate way to decorate our little baby's rooms I believe demonstrates just how little we know and think about Noah's Ark.

Over the next three weeks, therefore, we're going to study this event where the wickedness of humanity led God to destroy the earth. Likewise, we'll study how despite the fact that God could have righteously destroyed every person on the face of the earth, He didn't. The fact that God, therefore, maintains His promise of Genesis 3:15 once more tells us something very important about God's intentions for His earth and for His image-bearers. It's important that we understand that just as Noah's Ark is an event which demonstrates God's righteous anger against the wickedness of sin, it is also an event that tells us just how important it is that God's people continue to obey Him, continue to worship Him, and continue to fill the earth with worshipers.

Brothers and sisters, the fact that we live in a sinful world doesn't excuse us from fighting sin, and it certainly does not excuse us from fulfilling the commission of God to fill the earth with worshipers of God. What these chapters about the F ...
