The Sovereignty of God in the Mission- Part 1 (14 of 48)
Series: Kingdom Foundations - Genesis

Genesis 10:1-11:9
Introduction
It has been our purpose these past months to look at these first eleven chapters of the Bible in order that you and I would understand God's foundational work in establishing His kingdom over creation. Moreover, it's been our purpose to engage in this study so that we might have a more biblical understanding of ourselves in light of who God is and what He is doing. You and I have been made and designed for a purpose and the key to our joy and happiness in this life and in the life to come is to live according to that purpose. What is that purpose? Two words, which I hope you have committed to memory by this point: Worship and Obey. We've also seen, however, that sin is our enemy in fulfilling this mission. Our sinful condition as human beings and our individual daily sins threaten to derail us in the quest to obey God and fulfill His purpose for us, and as we've seen very clearly from Genesis 4, the majority of humanity chooses to indulge sin and refuses to obey and worship God. That truth is as much rampant today as it was then.
But in all of these things, in all these lessons we've learned there has been one central lesson which envelops and covers everything else within it. God is supreme; God is sovereign; God is over all things and in control of all things and, therefore, above all else, we must worship Him and delight in Him. As the Westminster Confession states: The chief end of man is to know God and to enjoy Him forever. The main purpose your life has is to know God and to enjoy Him. Now we don't often think of knowing God primarily as enjoying Him, but the truth we've learned from Genesis is that because God is supreme and sovereign and perfect, knowing Him is the most perfect and joyful thing we'll ever do.
You'll notice this morning that I've titled our study in Genesis 10 and 11 as ''Part I,'' an ...
