Ephesians 1:7-10
Introduction
Despite how our English translations have broken it up, Ephesians 1:3-14 is one giant sentence and thought. Thus, everything contained within these verses and within this one sentence must be interpreted in light of the main idea that Paul is seeking to convey to us. He gives us that main idea in verse 3, ''Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.'' Paul says here that God is blessed; He is to be praised by us. He should be worshiped simply because He is God and deserves all worship. But, to better help us understand who God is, Paul elaborates upon God's character and work by telling us that He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. In other words, who is God? He is the One who blesses believers with every spiritual blessing. That is the God whom we bless, praise, and worship.

In Jesus we are made sons and daughters of God, ''according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved.''
In sum, Paul says that God has blessed us by choosing us to be recipients of His grace. That was God's plan an ...
