Introduction
We continue, this morning, to unpack Paul's admonition to ''look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.'' It's such a simple and ordinary command given to the Christian, take advantage of every opportunity and every sphere of life to speak light into the darkness. It's so simple! And yet we struggle so much to actually do it!
Teresa and I returned from Wales on a Tuesday evening and by Wednesday morning we were at the pediatrician with two kids sick with strep throat and both with double ear infections. As we sat in the exam room waiting I remember saying to her that this was the reason we often struggle to keep engaging in God's mission when we come home from mission trips. You know how it goes, a group goes on a mission trip and both they and the church around them start asking, ''Why don't we just do this kind of mission at home here?'' And the answer is because life is busy here! I mean Teresa and I could pour ourselves into the Welsh people, into the mission, into the lives of our Welsh brothers and sisters because frankly, we had no other responsibilities or things to tend to.
Many of us are frustrated and struggling because we really do want to be engaged in the mission of God, and we want to be so much more engaged than we have been in the past. We realize that just ''coming to church,'' giving money, and going to weekly Bible study isn't enough; these things aren't geared toward Kingdom building. We want to engage our community, we want to follow Jesus in His mission, but life is just so busy.
