Introduction

Tell me if you ever feel this way: you're busy; you spend your nights and days working or engaged in various organizations and hobbies, maybe spending the day trying to keep your kids from burning down the house. You're trying to keep up with the house and meals. It's go, go, go all day long. Maybe though you're an overachiever and so you volunteer, you serve in a ministry or two in the church. You're on some committees or just stay involved in what's going on in the life of the church. Maybe it's a charity or philanthropic organization you try to give your time to. Simply put, you feel pretty busy and don't feel like you've got much spare time or energy.

And then week in and week out you've got some jerk of a pastor keep telling you that you need to engage in the mission of God. He and others keep asking you to get involved in serving the community, to getting involved in community with other believers, to engage in relationship with your neighbors and friends. You feel busy enough, you feel like maybe you're already doing it, and yet you keep getting told that you could be doing more.

I mean come on! What gives! Just leave me alone already! Right?

You see the challenge that lay in front of everyone one of us is not just acknowledging the call God has placed on us to follow Him, but actually seeing how to do so. Meaning we need to identify what stands in the way of our pursuit of God in our hearts and then figure out how do we translate that into our already demanding everyday lives? You see I think one of the things that we struggle with is we confuse busyness with the pursuit of God. Because we are busy doing stuff, good stuff, we equate that as being active followers of Jesus who are in pursuit of God. But can you really say that your days are spent pursuing God?
