Introduction

Paul wrote to us back in Ephesians 5 to, ''Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.'' His point was that we are living in the last days before Jesus returns to this earth to complete and perfect His kingdom. But in the meantime, before He comes, we have been given a task: to follow Jesus in His mission to make disciples of people from every corner of creation. This is the purpose of the church, to serve the expansion and building of the Kingdom. A church that does not primarily seek to worship God by obeying Him in this task is not a healthy church.

But this is also the purpose of our individual lives: to serve the expansion and building of the Kingdom. A Christian that does not primarily seek to worship God by obeying Him in this task is not a healthy Christian. Note, though, what Paul added to this mission in Ephesians 5: a put a timetable on the task. He said the days are evil, meaning there is great opposition to the mission of God and His kingdom in this world and so the task is more important and pertinent than ever! You have been given a divine task and heavenly marching orders, but you don't know how much time you have to complete that charge, and so make the best use of the time.
