Introduction
To my knowledge, no one has ever woken up one day and said, ''Today, I will believe and teach heresy.'' No one has ever woken up and said, ''Today seems like a nice day to forsake my faith.'' No one wakes up deciding that this will be the day to doubt what they believe or doubt what the Bible really says. The denominations and churches across the world that have caved on their convictions didn't just arise one day and say that this is the day we will abandon our faith. No, the fall into false doctrine errant belief is often a gradual slide. The drift away from biblical faith and true Christianity doesn't happen all at once; it begins often with small compromises on what one believes about Jesus, about God, about man, about the Scriptures.
Paul warned the elders of this church back in Acts 20 that there would be an attack on their faith. He showed us in Ephesians 6 that such attack is ultimately demonic. He warned in 1 Timothy 3 and again in 2 Timothy 3 that the closer we get to the end of this age the more and more people will fall away from their profession of faith and deny true biblical Christianity. We can certainly see this warning come true in our world today. We see examples of Christianity dying out, it seems, in countries across the world and even within our own nation we see denominations, churches, individual Christians deny what the Bible teaches.
While Jesus promised His followers that true believers, true Christians, will never fall away or lose their faith, He did promise that the world will hate us and that Satan will seek to destroy your faith. And so followers of Jesus must recognize the attack on truth that is rampant throughout our world and must be ready for it.
