A young couple had been married a few years. One day the husband came home from work to find his wife waiting at the door with a great big hug and kiss with a huge smile on her face. A little taken back the husband asked what was going on. She said she had a big surprise for him. The wife looked at her husband still grinning from ear to ear just giddy with excitement and said, ''Soon we will not be the only two people living in this house!'' Her husband swept her off her feet, swung her around, hugged her and kissed her and said, ''You have made me the happiest man alive!'' The wife looked back at him and said, ''I am so glad to know it is alright! Mother will be moving in next week!''

That is not exactly the surprise or gift he was looking for. It was definitely not the way he wanted to expand the family.

God in His infinite wisdom has given the gift of children to many of our homes. The Psalmist calls them a gift and a reward.

Psalm 127.3-5 - Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. 5 How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM GOD

They are God's possessions, treasures that he has loaned us for just a little while. Children are precious to Him and He intends them to be precious to us. I believe they had a special place in Jesus' ministry...

1. I can picture Jesus as He walked the shores of Galilee and people flocking to Him. As he entered a town I can picture little children just tagging along just watching what this great teacher and miracle worker was going to do.

2. I can picture parents bringing their children to Him to see Him, be touched by Him or be blessed by Him. He enjoyed every minute of it.
