Living with Certainty (14 of 14)
Series: Authentic Christianity

1 John 5:13-21
Intro/Attention
Tonight, we conclude our series in the letter of 1 John entitled Authentic Christianity. John wrote this letter to the churches in Asia Minor late in the first century to encourage them to live their lives as authentic followers of Christ in the midst of a sinful world.
Life in this fallen world is filled with uncertainty, with few guarantees and very little can be depended on. Job 14:1 says, ''Man who is born of woman is few of days and full of trouble.'' Now that's encouraging isn't it?
Life is filled with doubts, questions and uncertainties. The volatility of the stark market, fluctuations of the economy, increasing taxes and a ballooning national debt foster greater uncertainty. Relationships come and go, commitment and faithfulness seem to be a thing of the past. And on a larger scaled, natural disasters such as earthquake, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, floods, tsunamis can sweep away in an instant the accumulated treasures of a lifetime.
So, what do we do? Well, we buy insurance to help us cope with our uncertainty. Insurance for our health, home, cars, disabilities, and even our lives. But insurance doesn't answer our uncertainties or eliminate our questions.
While there are many uncertainties in this world, the most profound uncertainty with the most disastrous results exists not in the material realm, but in the spiritual and eternal realm. There are all sorts of religious and spiritual experts touting their latest, greatest way to peace and happiness. How can you find certainty in a world like this?
Well, the Bible is filled with absolute certainties. And John wrote this letter to provide his readers with certainty about all that God had revealed about the gospel and salvation.
