I was never good in science once you begin to hit the higher levels - chemistry and physics. I found it hard enough memorizing all the formulas, theorems and laws. When we had to take those formulas, theorems and laws to the lab then life got really difficult for me. I always prayed for one of those smart lab partners. Things were more difficult and important in the lab than the classroom. It was the place of applied learning.

In the first part of this letter Paul had the Thessalonians and us in a classroom, a classroom of faith, but here he begins moving us into the laboratory of everyday life. This is Paul's pattern for his other writings as well. He spends the first part of his letters dealing with direct questions he may have received from his correspondents and teaching Christian doctrine, truth and principles and spends the last part of those letters putting them into practice; putting the rubber of faith on the road of life.

Today, as we continue our study in this letter to the church in Thessalonica, we find ourselves at that transition point, the place where Paul begins to move us from understanding Christian truths and principles to living them.

SCRIPTURE

Today, I want us to look at the first few verses of chapter 4 as a bridge to the rest of the book. I do not intend on going much beyond these verses today.

At first glance I had intended to take the first 8 verses together but remembered that on Wednesday we have some younger ears present and I wanted to be as considerate as I could be.

If you look at the passage we just read you will notice that next week we will be looking at a topic, those with children, may want to be prepared for, sexual purity. The message will not be x-rated or explicit but may bring up questions you want to be prepared for.
