1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

I want us to begin this week with the quote we ended with last week. ''Let us think often that our only business in this life is to please God.'' Brother Lawrence

If we are to truly please God, we cannot see any part of our life as outside His sovereign concern and control. God is not simply interested with how we act, behave or think here at church. He is interested in how we act, behave and think in every conceivable arena of life. If you doubt it then begin to read the Bible a little more closely because you will find out that it speaks on every conceivable relationship and situation in which we find ourselves in. It covers corporate worship, private worship, finances, business practices, value and sanctity of human life, handling conflict, handling death and sickness, marriage, parenting and even our thought life.

For the believer there is no division between the holy and the secular. All of life is given to God as an act of worship. Because of this, what we believe about life and what we believe about what God has to say about life is of utmost importance. It is our beliefs that will govern our action and direct our lives.

Our beliefs, what we think, what we feel, what we are convicted of serve as the tracks on which the engine of life runs. They set the course that we will follow. Not only do they set the course but they also empower us to follow the tracks laid before us.

As we said, what we really believe is evidenced in the way we live and not by what we say. Our actions are the truest evidence of what we believe. Our beliefs are determined by what do and what we condone - listen - watch - read.

As believers, our beliefs and actions are to work in concert with one another allowing us to accomplish God's Will for our lives. The Will of God is something Paul brings up for us here in 1 Thessalonians 4. We are going to look at this tonight.
