a) Genesis 28 tells us the story about a man named Jacob
i) He is the third in line of the major patriarchs
ii) Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
b) I mentioned last week how much of the OT can be confusing
c) Jacob isn't exactly a model character
i) Genesis 25:26 ''After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob.''
ii) Jacob means ''he grasps the heel,'' a Hebrew idiom for ''he deceives.''
iii) Genesis 27:36 ''Esau said, 'Isn't he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he's taken my blessing!'''
iv) He is now getting out of the chaos to let the situation cool down a bit
