a) We are looking at stories in the OT and seeing how they illuminate Jesus
i) The first week we looked at the Tower of Babel (Ge. 11)
ii) Last week we looked at the stairway to Heaven (Ge. 28)
b) Journals week 3
i) Title: In All Things God
ii) Big idea: When things look their worst, Jesus is at His best.
iii) This might be hard to see at first but I'm going to keep developing this theme as we go today

3) Joseph's story
a) His father is Jacob, the guy we looked at last week
b) Genesis 37:28 ''So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.''
c) Genesis 37:36 ''Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard.''
d) Genesis 39:20 ''[Potiphar] took him and put him in prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined.''
e) In prison he meets a cupbearer to the king and helps him
f) Genesis 40:21,23 ''[Pharaoh] restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh's hand... The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.''
g) After this God tells Pharaoh about an upcoming famine in a dream and Joseph interprets it for him
h) It eventually causes him to be 2nd to Pharaoh
4) Genesis 50:15-17 ''When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, ''What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?'' 16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, ''Your father left these instructions before he died: 17 'This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the s ...
