Joshua 23:14-16

Joshua 23:14-16

14 ''Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.
15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the Lord your God promised you, so the Lord will bring upon you all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
16 When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.''

What a man of God Joshua was! He led the Israelites after Moses. He oversaw both the conquering of the Land of Canaan and the distribution of the land among the twelve tribes. Looking at his career we can't find one negative thing to say about him. This is pretty rare in the pages of Scripture. Joshua was not only the leader of God's people, like Moses, he more or less functioned as their prophet.

God communicated with Joshua and Joshua told the people what he said. This is what a prophet does. Joshua's life was rapidly drawing to a close. As God's man he wanted to leave his people with one last message. Joshua saved the best for last. In his final message He reminded them of the choice that lay before them: to serve the Lord or not serve the Lord.

No one can make this decision for us and it's a decision we all have to make.
