What Can We Know for Certain?

1 John 5:18-21

1 John 5:18-21

18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

I heard Vance Havner say that he lived so far out in the country not only did he not know anything he didn't even suspect anything. Unlike the day in which he grew up in the mountains of North Carolina this is the information age. Information about just about anything and everything is right at our fingertips in the form of our gadgets. To tell the truth I'm not so sure we're better off than the people of Dr. Havner's day.

Having access to information and knowing the truth about something may be two entirely different things. The information we receive from those devices may be true or it might not be.

As believers, the Word of God must always be our ultimate source for truth. Why? The Bible is called God's Word for a reason. It was inspired by the Omnipotent Creator. It is the very breath of God that gives the Bible it's power and authority.

2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
