Serving God in an Uncertain World
Richard A. Bradley
Romans 12:3-8
Romans 12:3-8
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function,
5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;
7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;
8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
I don't think many of us would deny that we're living in a mighty uncertain world. It hasn't always been this way has it? There was a time when we always knew what to expect. No more I'm afraid. Things are changing on a daily basis. Life can take so many turns and twists that we don't know what to expect anymore. One day we may feel good about our world and the next day some new and terrible event takes place.
God is going to change all this one day but what do we do in the meantime? According to Scripture we aren't permitted to just ride it out. No matter how pervasive the cares and difficulties of life may become we must still serve God even in this uncertain world.
Serving God in an uncertain world requires the following:
A SENSE OF PERSONAL GRACE AND HUMILITY
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
Christians in Paul's day also lived in an uncertain world. If anything it was even more uncertain than the one we're living in. And yet, look at how Paul ...
