Promises, Promises

Joshua 21:43-45
Joshua 21:43-45
43 So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.
44 The Lord gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.
45 Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
People make us promises all the time. Sometimes those people mean to keep their promises and sometimes they don't. Sometimes people (like politicians) promise us something just to get us off their backs. The question comes down to ''who do you trust?'' A promise is only as good as the person making the promise. What is his track record? Has he been faithful in the past to keep his promises?
God has an indisputable record of keeping His promises. He made many promises to Israel in the Old Testament and kept every one of them. He's also made us a lot of New Testament promises. Some He has already kept and some He is in the process of keeping. If a promise is only as good as the one making it then we can be sure that any promise God makes us will be kept.
Notice what these verses says about God's ability to keep His promises.
GOD PROMISED ISRAEL THEIR OWN LAND AND HE GAVE THEM THEIR OWN LAND
43 So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.
The Jews did nothing to earn or deserve Canaan. God selected the Jews to be His people and for His own sovereign reasons He selected Canaan to be their homeland. He literally picked up a million or more slaves in Egypt, carried them across the desert, and put them in a place He had sworn generations before to give them.
Over the years the Jews lost control of the Holy Land because of their unfaithful ...
