On Fire for the Lord

Luke 24:32-34

Luke 24:32-34

32 They said to each other, ''Didn't our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?''
33 And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them,
34 who said, ''The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter.''

You've heard this phrase before. In football we encourage our team to ''get fired up.'' This phrase has to do with enthusiasm. No one can play their best while carrying around a defeated, pessimistic attitude. And so we say, ''get fired up!'' Get excited. Get enthusiastic. No group on earth should have more enthusiasm than believers. We serve a risen Savior whose resurrection assures us that our gospel message is true.

There couldn't have been a more defeated and pessimistic pair than the two disciples who walked the Emmaus road that day. It's interesting how a day can start off so bad and then end up so well. When these men finally lay down to sleep that night their attitude had completely changed.

You can be sure they were fired up.

THE TIME THEY SPENT WITH CHRIST FIRED THEM UP

32 They said to each other, ''Didn't our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?''

When we grow cold and discouraged as believers it's usually because we're not communing with the Lord as we should. The time they spent with Jesus not only warmed their hearts it also encouraged them to get about God's business. Don't always feel like going to church? How much time have you spent with the Lord? Don't always feel like witnessing? How much times have you spent with the Lord?

Get fired up. Spend time with Jesus and like the disciples your heart will catch fire.
