Being Happy in a Less Than Perfect World
Richard Bradley
James 1:2-8
James 1:2-8
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Some think happiness comes from being on top of the world. You know, success breeds happiness. The problem is once we get to the top of the heap and get all the pieces of our lives in place we invariably find something brand new to worry about. If we don't have money we worry about getting it. If we have money we worry about keeping it. The fact is, no matter what you have or don't have this world will never be a perfect place. The days of Eden are long past.
James' message is that, as believers, we can be happy no matter what's going on around us. We just have to refocus. If you're not happy you're focused on the wrong things. James reminds us that true happiness comes from seeing what cannot be seen with the naked eye. To do this we'll have to be willing to utilize the faith we already possess.
Remember that true happiness is never based on our circumstances either good or bad.
HAPPINESS IS A PRODUCT OF CHRISTIAN PATIENCE
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

We look around and sometimes we only see the problems and difficult issues of life which produce unhappiness. James reminded his readers that true happiness doesn't always issue from present circumstances ...
