1 Corinthians 12

Intro: Video showing people in the congregation using their spiritual gifts.

How is someone born again? Remember this question from the gospel of John? A religious man named Nicodemus was talking with Jesus and Jesus told him that he needed to be born again in order to ''see the Kingdom of God.'' But Nicodemus was confused about this born again stuff. ''How can a person be born again? Certainly they cannot enter into their mother's womb a second time?''

Jesus was trying to teach Nicodemus that in order to ''see the Kingdom of God'' or enter into a right relationship with God, then they have to be born again. They need to start over. Our sin and rebellion against God has killed us, we are dead in our sins and transgressions, says Ephesians 2:1. Dead people cannot do anything for themselves. But Jesus wants us to start over, to be born again. But of course, we cannot do this to ourselves, just as we had no power or will over our physical birth. So, God the Father along with Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit created a plan to cause us to be born again.

The plan was for Jesus to be born of a woman, to live a perfect life as a man, and to die in our place to bear the punishment and wrath of God which we deserved for our sins, to rise from the dead and ascend into heaven, all the while pouring out His Holy Spirit into all who believe in Him. When we believe in faith that Jesus has done this for us, and surrender our hearts to him in a whole-souled movement, we are then born again into a new life.

And when this happens, God puts His Holy Spirit inside of us.

''Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?'' 1 Corinthians 3:16
