Eugene W Brice, former Pastor of University Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas, related a story he once heard.

This story is about a man who was traveling and stopped to see friends in various cities. In one of the towns he was visiting, he stopped to catch up with a friend that he had not seen in years, yet they had remained in some contact. As a result of the call to say he was in town, an invitation was extended to spend the night as a guest with the family.

The family consisted of a father and mother and a couple of children who were in the latter years of teen and beginning young adult age. The traveler noticed that the son was a little different, he behaved more as a servant than a son, and the hospitality was more out of obedience than warmth. He was at the beck and call of the father; he waited upon them hand and foot. Unlike the sister who just appeared to behave like a daughter in the house.

As they were catching up with life, they shared various things about family and children. The father began to share with the friend some trials that he had with this boy. The father says he had experience a rebellious season in his life; he got mixed up with the wrong crowd, he chose a life of abuse and crime that caused him to become distant form the family in his early teen years. He ran away, he deviated from the core values of the family and ended up engaged in a life style of drugs, crime, and riotous living. He ended up being reprimanded to a boy's home for boys with behavior issues. He left the home and was on the streets for a season, we got a call one night from the hospital that he had been beaten badly because of living on the streets.



He had been on the streets for a long time apparently; we could see that he needed help. He was dirty, he was very thin, he had not eaten well, his shoes were deplorable, they were worn out, there were huge holes in the sole, his appearances were ...
