Colossians 1:9-14
Like all of you are there places I enjoy going and things I enjoy doing.
1. I love going to a good restaurant and enjoying a good meal with family and friends.
2. I love going to a ball game and watching my son play - had the opportunity to do that in the rain yesterday - but still enjoyed it.
3. I love getting to come watch some of your kids play ball, march in the band or cheer at the high school games. These are places I enjoy going.
There are places I don't enjoy going and things I don't enjoy doing.
1. I had lab work last week and have a couple of doctor's appointments this week - that time of year.
2. When you get a little older they don't want to see you every five or ten years they want to see you ever year just to make sure you are still here. When you get a little older than that they want to see you ever six months to make sure you are still here and for some of you they want you back every week just to make sure your still here and your insurance still pays.
3. While I am not usually afraid of doctors I cannot say I enjoy going to them.
4. I have spent much of my ministry in hospitals visiting but I cannot say that I enjoy it.
5. Another place I don't enjoy going is the funeral home. I have been to more of those than I care to admit.
Most of us would say, ''I'd much rather go to a party than I had a funeral any day of the week and twice on Sundays.'' I would much rather think about where I am going to eat before the game on Friday night at the Concrete Palace with some of you Crazies than entertain thoughts about my morality or anyone else's.
It would seem just a little bit odd and slightly creepy to hear someone say that it is better to go to a funeral home than it is to a party of football game.
